Workforce Challenge

Roger was laid off from his recent position with a large customer service provider after five years of service. He was receiving unemployment benefits and at first he thought it wouldn't be difficult to obtain another position quickly. He applied for several opportunities with very little response. He then decided to re-evaluate his customer service skills and look at other training opportunities.

Workforce Solution

Through Greenville County Workforce Development, Roger was co-enrolled in TAA and WIA. He scored a Gold level on the Work Keys® assessment, participated in the PET Program (Preferred Employee Training) with WIA Intensive Services and enrolled at Greenville Technical College in the Paralegal Studies program. While in the program, he secured an internship at a law firm to gain industry experience.

Outcomes & Benefits

Roger completed his internship and graduated with his Associates Degree with honors. The law office where he conducted his internship valued his contribution of creating the new filing system, yet it was not complete at the end of his internship. Roger continued to stay in touch with them about coming on board as an employee. Roger's persistence paid off and he was offered him a position as their paralegal.
