Workforce Challenge

Jeanine, a single mother, relocated from Staten Island, NY seeking better opportunity for herself and her teenage son. As a substance abuse counselor she was well aware of the dangers to teenagers of interacting with the wrong crowd. As she saw her son start to make poor choices, she decided to move to SC to be closer to family and find a job that would allow her more time with her son.

Workforce Solution

Jeanine came to Greenville where she registered with WIA Intensive Services for support in her job search. She obtained her WorkKeys® certification and went through the PET Program (Preferred Employee Training), creating a good resume, practicing with mock interviews and learning advanced job search techniques. She applied for many jobs, went on several interviews and kept her focus on finding the right position.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jeanine received a call after an interview with Crossroads Treatment Center offering her the position of Substance Abuse Counselor, which she happily accepted. She has great hours that allow her to be available for her son and they have moved into their own home. Her son has adjusted well and is doing great!
Crossroads will also pay for Jeanine to complete her SC Substance Abuse Certification. She also has a professional plan in place to continue to grow in her profession by expanding her training as an RN specializing in Substance Abuse. Congratulations, Jeanine!
