Meet William

Workforce Challenge

William worked for about 8 years with the Los Angeles Unified School District as an Operation Scheduler, which involved scheduling jobs for programmers for the district. He was laid off in May 2011. William had some certifications in the IT Field but he had obtained them in 2000 so they were somewhat outdated. He was not interested in remaining in the IT Field because he was getting older, and with the constant changes in the field, he felt it would be difficult for him to keep up.

Workforce Solution

PACE Westlake WorkSource Center contacted William to let him know about the services we could provide through our National Emergency Grant (NEG). He was interested and came to our center to meet with staff. William was very interested in improving his skill set. the staff listened to his concerns about being able to keep pace with rapid changes in the IT industry. After some discussions and research, William decided to transition into the health care field. He believed that it would offer stability. He started training as a Hospital Central Service Technician.

Outcomes & Benefits

William completed his training and completed an internship at a hospital in Burbank. He did such a great job on his internship that the employer hired him in August 2013. William is so grateful for the opportunity he had to acquire new skills, to be able to use those skills at his new job, and to find a job that allows him to support himself and his family.
