Meet Kimberly

Workforce Challenge

Kimberly came into the Workforce Center in March 2011, seeking assistance with LPN and RN training funds. She had been unemployed since June 2009 and was receiving benefits from the state to help support herself financially. Kimberly was looking for a more stable, self-sufficient career in which to support herself and her family. She was deemed eligible for the KHPOP program in March 2011 and began her training in June 2013.

Workforce Solution

While involved in the KHPOP program, Kimberly received assistance with tuition, fees, books, materials and supplies needed for her LPN and RN training programs; as well as receiving assistance with testing fees, background checks, drug screens and immunizations associated with these trainings. To help alleviate barriers while in training, she also received supportive services including Fuel Assistance and Childcare Assistance throughout the entire time in training, Car Repair Assistance, Utility Assistance and Housing Assistance, and work uniforms. These services were key in helping Kimberly achieve her ultimate educational goals through the KHPOP program.

Outcomes & Benefits

In December 2012, Kimberly was hired as an LPN, and she worked to gain experience in the healthcare field while still attending her classes. Through the KHPOP program, Kimberly obtained her Associates degree in March 2013, and her LPN state license as well as her RN in August 2013. She was hired as an RN right away, and she is now making $27/hour and achieving her goals.
