Workforce Challenge

Neesha needed additional income to allow her and her two children to be self-sufficient. She was working as a CNA and having to work weekends and evenings. Daycare was very hard for her to find. Neesha was also in default on past studen loans and she didn't think she could go back to school. She didn't know where to turn.

Workforce Solution

During her initial assessment, we discussed various career opportunities that were in demand in the area. We talked about different career interests and she indicated that she wanted to be a Medical Assistant. She liked both the personal care and also the administrative part of the medical field. WIA assisted her with her first semester of tuition until her financial aid was out of default. Neesha is now back on track with her financial aid and is earning straight A's in the Medical Assistant Program. She completed her first semester in January, 2013 and will complete an internship following her current semester.

Outcomes & Benefits

Neesha was nominated and accepted into the National Technical Honor Society. She maintained a 4.0 GPA all year long and was voted as Class Representative. She also voiced a radio ad for the Medical Assistant program in Hays on 104.7!

Neesha was offered a position at Kansas Pathology Services in Hays as a medical assistant/laboratory aide/phlebotomist, a position that offers opportunity for advancement. She also passed her MA licensing exam. Congratulations, Neesha!
