Meet Claudia

Workforce Challenge

Claudia worked at Los Angeles Unified School District as a Student Aide for several years until she was laid off in 2012. Claudia came in to the WorkSource Center during a difficult period in her life. She was feeling depressed, discouraged, and emotionally drained at not finding employment. She felt her job search was not leading towards anything promising because of her limited work skills. She had been with the school district for many years and felt so secure in the job that she never realized the need to continually upgrade her skills.

Workforce Solution

Claudia came into the West San Gabriel Valley WorkSource Center looking for job search assistance. As a former LAUSD employee, she qualified for services under the Multi-Sector Workforce Partnership/NEG grant. The staff completed an assessment of Claudia's needs to help prepare her to re-enter the workforce. Claudia was interested in training in the medical field. She hoped that becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant would open opportunities for employment, especially since her experience as an instructional aide called for many qualities that employers are looking for in a CNA. Claudia's interests and values showed that she was a good candidate for this occupation.

Outcomes & Benefits

Claudia was approved for the Certified Nurse Assistant Training Program through the NEG Program. She is ecstatic and grateful to the program in giving her the opportunity to learn a new skill. Claudia is currently completing her clinical studies at a convalescent home and will soon begin preparing to take her state licensing test. She is eager to complete the training and start putting into practice the skills she has learned.
