Workforce Challenge

In December 2011, Stacey made a career change when she received her MBA and finished the last of her successful internships in high tech marketing. Given the economy, hiring was limited, and her internship employer was unable to offer her full time employment. Stacey then spent seven months searching for a full time marketing position. Although she had over nine years of engineering and marketing experience at Fortune 500 companies, she lacked the depth of marketing experience her competitors had.

Workforce Solution

A friend referred Stacey to NOVA's CONNECT Job Seeker Center as well as the ProMatch program in Silicon Valley, which is funded jointly by both the California Employment Development Department and NOVA Workforce Board.

ProMatch's operating model is unique: 3 hard-working staff members and 200 job-seeker volunteers provide full-day programming five days a week. Over the course of five months, Stacey took workshops and classes at NOVA and ProMatch, took on a leadership role with ProMatch, and eventually led interviewing workshops. By learning and volunteering alongside other highly educated, experienced Silicon Valley professionals, she gained confidence, further developed her networking and interviewing skills, and honed her soft skills.

Outcomes & Benefits

Stacey recently accepted a position as a solutions marketing manager at Dell Wyse. Although she's relatively new, she feels the company, culture, and role are a very good fit. She's grateful for the help she received and highly recommends ProMatch and the CONNECT Center to all Bay Area job seekers. These programs not only enabled her to win the offer, but set her up for future success. She says the deep networking relationships she now has with experienced people will be invaluable throughout her career.
