Meet Saul

Workforce Challenge

Saul was laid off from a job his job in the aircraft industry, where he had been earning more than $30 per hour. The economy at the time made it difficult for Saul to find a new position, due to mass layoffs across the aircraft industry as a whole. Even more difficult was the fact that Saul was over 60 years old.

Workforce Solution

After working in the same job for so long, Saul needed updated training to gain skills that would help him be competitive in the current job market.

Workforce Alliance of South Central KS provided training funding for Saul to pursue training in CAD/CAM, which would lead to high demand occupation jobs in machining.

Outcomes & Benefits

Once Saul finished training, he found a new job as an engineer making around $25 per hour. Even better, he did not have to relocate out of the area. Despite Saul's early concerns that his age would remain a barrier to finding gainful employment, he found a great new position that combined both his years of experience and his updated knowledge!
