Meet Todd

Workforce Challenge

Todd had worked as a general manager in the retail industry for many years when he lost his job in May 2011. He searched for a similar position for more than a year with no offers of employment. The only jobs he could find were entry-level retail employment for $10.00 per hour, which was not enough to support his family.

Workforce Solution

Finally, Todd decided he needed to change careers in order to find a job that would provide for his family. His uncle, a truck driver, suggested to Todd that he consider the trucking industry. Another family member then referred him to the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board’s Rancho Cucamonga Employment Resource Center for assistance with pursuing this field.

Todd was quickly approved to receive Class A truck drivers’ training through the American Institute of Technology (AIT).

Outcomes & Benefits

Todd successfully completed the four-week training course and passed the test for his Class A license. Soon after, Swift Transportation hired Todd as a driver.
