Workforce Challenge

A dislocated worker from the medical industry, Rebecca was employed for 23 years with the same company, primarily in the quality assurance (QA) department. The company decided to move its distribution center to Memphis and Rebecca found herself out of work. She began sending out resumes, checking online job postings and even knocked on companies' doors looking for work… all with no results.

Workforce Solution

After an unsuccessful 3-month job search, she heard about WIA through a former co-worker and signed up for help in March 2009. Career center staff introduced her to WIA services and workshops including "Power of Virtual OneStop" and "Winning Interviews." She learned how to post her resume online and other job-hunting techniques. A career counselor recommended Rebecca for on-the-job training (OJT) at Lucix Corp. in Camarillo. OJT built on her transferable skills for a different industry.

Outcomes & Benefits

Rebecca has now been employed at Lucix as a quality assurance technician for a little over a year. Earning a good salary, she loves her job: it's stimulating; she has more responsibility than before; and she works with great people. Just as important, she is more positive about her future and feels she is again contributing to society. She believes that without the help of WIA and especially her WIA account executive, she would not be working today. "WIA made all the difference," says Rebecca.
