Workforce Challenge

Karron is 45 years old and single. She worked in the mortgage industry for 17 years as a Loan Service Specialist before getting laid off in October 2010. After a year of searching for employment and falling behind on her mortgage payments, she decided to retrain in the Medical Billing & Coding Program with hopes of new opportunities opening up.

Workforce Solution

Upon enrolling in the National Emergency Grant (NEG), SETA/Sacramento Works was able to assist with her mortgage and utility bills, so that she could concentrate on training. SETA/Sacramento Works also provided resume critique, job search assistance, and referrals to community resources.

Outcomes & Benefits

Karron completed the Medical Billing & Coding Program in August 2012 and found employment as a Medical Billing Specialist several months afterwards. When asked for an update on her new job, she said she is learning a lot in a friendly work environment and feels it is a good fit for her. She thanks SETA/Sacramento Works for being a blessing.
