Meet Mindy

Workforce Challenge

Mindy was a 27 year old dislocated worker that came to the Metro North Worksource Center seeking assistance. She had been laid off from the Los Angeles Unified School District where she had been a substitute teacher for the previous two years. Mindy already had a clear vision in terms of what career path she wished to take. Mindy specified an interest in remaining in the public sector, assisting individuals with their own educational or social service needs. She was interested in obtaining new transferable skills that would increase her possibility for employment.

Workforce Solution

Mindy contacted Metro North Worksource Center for assistance with her short term and long term goals in both education and employment. She wished to pursue training opportunities which in turn would allow her to enhance her existing skill set and at the same time provide her with new transferable skills. Mindy scheduled appointments to be involved in career enhancement workshops and recruiting opportunities provided by the Metro North Worksource Center. Mindy received assistance with training opportunities which were possible under the National Emergency Grant.

Outcomes & Benefits

As part of the employment plan which was developed for her by the Metro North Worksource Center, Mindy enrolled at California State University Los Angeles and subsequently completed a Foundational Level Science course. As a direct result of her completion of this specific course Mindy was rehired with the Los Angeles Unified School District and is still currently happily employed there.
