Meet Sharlene

Workforce Challenge

Sharlene was unemployed for nearly two years after working for the U.S. Census 2010. When it was time to search for a new job, the opportunities were limited, and there was lots of competition for the open positions. Sharlene was overwhelmed and struggled to stay active in her job search.

Workforce Solution

Sharlene visited the Shoreline One Stop and her outlook began to change. She used the OneStop services that were available to her, including job search assistance, resume preparation, and interviewing skills training. "Not only was I surrounded by fellow seekers who were familiar with my employment despair, but there were workshops and counseling readily available to boost both my skills and my confidence," shared Sharlene. "The staff was incredibly upbeat and supportive; they assisted me in every possible way with their diverse services and undying optimism."

Sharlene qualified for the NEG MultiSector Workforce Partnership grant, which gave her the edge she needed over the stiff competition in the job market. The NEG monies were used to fund an On the Job Training for Sharlene at Native Trails.

Outcomes & Benefits

Sharlene completed her training and is now working full time at Native Trails. "Having rejoined the work force, I am getting back on my feet, able to replace my dying vehicle and begin paying off the debt accrued during my long unemployment stint," said Sharlene. "I simply would not be where I am without the support of One Stop Career Center and the NEG grant and I simply could not be more grateful."
