Workforce Challenge

Native Trails was recruiting for a Personal/Executive Assistant to its CEO. Although there were some skills, knowledge, and experience required for the job, the most important requirement was being the right fit for the company and for the CEO. Finding the right person and spending time and money to train them would not only be time consuming, but expensive. With budgets and workloads both being tight, the company needed support to screen and train the best person for the job. They turned to Shoreline One Stop for assistance.

Workforce Solution

Teresa Murray, manager at Native Trails, heard about available NEG grant funding through her volunteer position with the California Workforce Investment Board's Employer Advisory Council (EAC). She learned that the Shoreline One Stop would pre-screen and interview job candidates, plus provide On the Job Training funds to help the new hire train with the company and learn the new role. Teresa knew this would be a great solution for Native Trails.

Outcomes & Benefits

"We knew our our candidate was a fit for our agency after the first interview," said Teresa. "Without the program, we might not have found her. We had the opportunity to interview her and acquire a feel for the “person” and not the specific job skill set that is the norm recruiting practice." The funding assistance allowed Native Trails to train the "right fit" person from the beginning, saving the company time as well as money.
