Meet Winefreda

Workforce Challenge

Winefreda worked for over 15 years in the hotel industry when her employer announced they would be relocating her department out of state and a reduction in force would take place. Winefreda thought that with her experience she could easily find another position. Unfortunately, the interviews and securing employment did not come as easily as she had hoped. Winefreda lost confidence, was discouraged and became concerned that being a mature worker was a barrier to her job search.

Workforce Solution

Winefreda was contacted by the JVS WorkSource Center and enrolled under the National Emergency Grant (NEG) program. Winefreda’s skills were current and she decided to forego training and focus on obtaining employment. She met with her Case Manager on a regular basis and together they created an individual employment plan and job search strategy, revised her resume, and participated in mock interviews. Her Case Manager provided job leads, and suggested that she attend networking events,and connect with former colleagues on LinkedIn. At first, Winefreda was embarrassed to let others know she was looking for work. To her surprise, she was contacted by a former co-worker regarding a job lead.

Outcomes & Benefits

Because of the on-going face-to-face and phone coaching she had been doing with her Case Manager, Winefreda said that her overall confidence and self-esteem was boosted. She was hired as a Sales Administrative Assistant for an international luxury hotel. Through the grant, JVS provided Winefreda with funds to purchase business attire for her new career.

Winefreda is deeply grateful for the encouragement, support and assistance received while seeking employment.
