Meet Martha

Workforce Challenge

Martha was laid off from her job as a packer/sorter in the farming industry. She had a limited work history, limited English skills, and was at the end of her unemployment benefits when she sought assistance from Employers' Training Resource. Martha had also just experienced the death of a child in her family and was depressed and distraught about her future.

Workforce Solution

Through the Multi-Sector Partnership National Emergency Grant, Employers' Training Resource staff enrolled Martha in a Services Occupation/Work Experience program where she could learn new skills while on the job as a hotel laundry/housekeeper.

Outcomes & Benefits

Martha did such a great job at her training site, the Hilton Garden Inn, that they offered her employment as a laundry/housekeeper. She was thrilled to find employment outside of the farming industry. Martha was able to work additional hours to bring in more income and was also offered health care benefits. Martha shared that she loves her job, that her supervisor is very nice and that her life is much better due to the opportunity afforded to her by the WIA Multi Sector Partnership NEG grant program.
