Meet Brandyn

Workforce Challenge

Brandyn came into the Wichita Workforce Center seeking training in the healthcare field. He was working part-time as a waiter and part-time as an entry level employee in the healthcare field. He was seeking training to obtain his BSN and RN license in order to better his career opportunities for the future, in the healthcare field.

Workforce Solution

Brandyn qualified for the KHPOP grant, which assists customers with healthcare-related training. He was accepted into the Wichita State University BSN program to begin in August 2011. With great determination and commitment, Brandyn completed his training in December 2012 and obtained his RN license in March 2013. While in the KHPOP training program, he received funds to pay for tuition, fees and books costs, as well as materials and supplies such as uniforms, testing fees, background checks and immunization costs. The program allowed him to access these funds as necessary and be successful in completing his training goals.

Outcomes & Benefits

Brandyn was hired by one of the major medical centers in the Wichita Area. He was hired as an RN, working full-time hours at over $19 per hour. He is now excited to start his career in the healthcare field and provide himself with a self-sufficient wage to support himself moving forward.
