Meet Thomas

Workforce Challenge

Thomas was laid off and was in search of a new job when he saw a Waste Water Treatment Training Program flyer from the Yuba County One-Stop. Thomas came to the Yuba County One-Stop Center in the North Central Counties Consortium (NCCC) local workforce area to learn more about the Waste Water Treatment Program.

Workforce Solution

Thomas enrolled in Waste Water Treatment Program, but he needed to boost his math skills in order to complete training. Thomas was provided with a tutor to help him. With tutoring and additional support from Cathie, his Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Counselor, Thomas completed his self-paced training early and applied for an apprentice program at City of Marysville, where he worked towards his state Waste Water Treatment License.

Outcomes & Benefits

Thomas is now working in a career where there are opportunities for advancement. He was able to use his existing skills and enhance them with practical training in a new career area. At the end of his training program Thomas said, “I’m very grateful and I appreciate all the help and support that [my WIA counselor] gave me, from the beginning of my training to the end when I became employed." Congratulations, Thomas!
