As a construction and real estate accounting firm, The Corporate Advocate faced a challenging economy and shrinking business prospects in 2008. Its owners decided to take an enterprising step and reinvent the company as a professional employer services organization.

Workforce Solution

Chief Operating Officer Ray Blom relied on the County of San Bernardino’s Workforce Investment Board to find and train the right employees for the company’s transition to a new business platform. The Corporate Advocate used On-the-Job Training funds, a no-cost program that reduces hiring costs by reimbursing employers for a portion of a new hire’s wage during an initial training period.

As part of its expansion over the past four years, the company has hired 20 employees through the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board’s On-the-Job Training programs.

Outcomes & Benefits

“With the help of On-the-Job training, we built our staff from two employees in 2008 to 17 today. This program makes it possible for us to hire the right people at the right time and will be a significant resource for The Corporate Advocate as we continue to grow," said Blom. In addition to OJT, The Corporate Advocate also leveraged the Workforce Investment Board’s no-cost recruitment and screening programs to identify and hire excellent employees.
