Workforce Challenge

In the past four years, Robert had been laid off twice: once because the business closed; and once due to economic conditions and lack of work. Robert took a job at McDonald's and started taking general education classes for a nursing program so he could secure employment for his future.

Workforce Solution

At Kansas Workforce One, Robert told his case manager that he was determined to get into a nursing program. He had one more general education to take and a Certified Medical Assisting (CMA) class. He was also taking intermediate algebra and it was a self paced course. Robert applied for the nursing program shortly before Christmas and awaited their response.

Outcomes & Benefits

Robert finished his algebra course in 8 weeks and received an A. His instructor said, "I have taught the course in its present form to 54 students in the last year. Robert had the second best final score of all my students. He also completed the class 8 weeks early." In February, Robert received a letter he had been accepted into the nursing program. He was ecstatic. Congratulations, Robert!
