Meet Laura

Workforce Challenge

Finding herself unemployed after being laid off from her
position at a local college, Laura sought assistance in upgrading her skills through Mendocino Works, the local One-Stop Center. By utilizing the resources available to her through the One-Stop, Laura was able to continue her job search and began working on an employment plan with guidance provided by staff from MPIC, Inc., the local WIA Service Provider.

Workforce Solution

While Laura was continuing her job search efforts, she enrolled at the R.O.P. Business School (a partner in the local One-Stop System) and began attending classes in business English, business writing, customer service and computer training. Laura received training in Quicken, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office 2003/2010 in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Based on her accomplishments at the R.O.P. Business School, Laura was named “Student of the Month”.

Outcomes & Benefits

With her skills upgraded and her confidence boosted (and with the added advantage of being bi-lingual) Laura began testing through Merit System Services for jobs within local County government. She accepted full-time employment as a Case Manager with the Mendocino County Department of Child Support Services.
