Workforce Challenge

Irene was laid off when her sales representative position was eliminated. As a single mother of two teenagers, she wanted to find a new position that would was struggling to support her family.

Workforce Solution

She met with her local WIA Employment Specialist for job search assistance. She expressed her concern of not being able to find a full time job that paid more than minimum wage due to her lack of work experience and training. Her case manager had her attend a career success workshop where Irene learned about demand occupations in this area. With the help of her case manager, she enrolled in a Certified Nurses Assistant (C.N.A.) program through the local college.

Outcomes & Benefits

Irene received her C.N.A. license and took a part time position with a nursing home while she attended the C.M.A. class at the local college. Once she completed that level of training, she accepted a full time position with that facility earning a salary comparable to what she was accustomed to in her previous job.
