Meet Ms. Boger

Workforce Challenge

In July, 2007, after nine years of service, Phyllis Boger lost her job as a packaging line operator for a health products manufacturer. Faced with unemployment and a loss of financial security, Ms. Boger decided to return to York Technical College via the WIA Program. She felt she needed additional training to be able to compete in the changing job market.

Workforce Solution

Ms. Boger was certified WIA eligible during August, 2007. However, plans for returning to school were placed on hold when she decided to seek full-time employment due to her financial obligations. After several unsuccessful attempts at re-entering the workforce, Ms. Boger ultimately decided to move forward with her training goals.

Ms. Boger enrolled in York Technical College's Automated Office Diploma program in March 2008, earning a place on the Dean's List and other academic honors along the way. In addition, she completed a successful internship with the City of Rock Hill's Administration Department while providing extensive volunteer services on campus and in her community.

Outcomes & Benefits

In May 2010, Ms. Boger graduated with an Associates Degree in Administrative Office Technology. She's currently employed with Spherion Hewitt as a Customer Service Associate. In completing her degree, she overcame adversity and achieved her goal.
