Workforce Challenge

Tom was laid off from a large call center. With his degrees being in Psychology and Theology there wasn’t a lot of employment opportunity. Tom didn’t have the time to go back to school he needed employment quickly in order to support his family.

Workforce Solution

After talking with his counselor,Tom said he loved working with people and helping them out and was interested in using this skill set to find a career in this area. The Kansas Workforce ONE staff learned of an opening for a counselor in a local youth mental health facility. They spoke with the HR representative and discussed Tom's background and she was very interested in speaking with Tom about his skills for a position with their company. As a result he did an On the Job training program with them.

Outcomes & Benefits

Tom became a full time employee at the mental health facility. He is again at a self-sufficient wage for his family. He has advanced in his position and is really enjoying his new career.
