Workforce Challenge

Woodmack struggled to survive for four years due to overseas and out-of-state competition. Re-shoring efforts are finally bringing work back to the company from China, Mexico and the Eastern US. In the last year, Woodmack has been growing and hiring again. The company's manufacturing environment requires it to have reliable, trainable candidates that can pass drug screening and physical requirements. Woodmack was having difficulty finding the people it needed with the manufacturing skills required to do the job.

Workforce Solution

Woodmack partnered with a SETA-Sacramento Works-funded On-the-Job Training (OJT) provider, Folsom Cordova Community Partnership (FCCP) to assist them with their hiring needs. FCCP provides prescreened candidates based on the company's hiring criteria before scheduling the candidates for interviews. Dorinda McMillan, owner of Woodmack, said "the process saved me a great deal of time and also provides me with better potential employees."

Outcomes & Benefits

Woodmack has successfully hired over ten employees through the On-the-Job training program. "Taking advantage of the OJT program has helped make 2012 the most profitable year we have had in a very long time", said McMillan.
