Workforce Challenge

Paul was a former dietary aide supervisor looking for work. More importantly, he was interested in a career change. Although Paul had the desire to pursue a new career, he lacked the financial means to go back to school.

Workforce Solution

Paul learned of a program that would give him the opportunity to train in Water Treatment Operations (WTO) with California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), through a grant received by the Sutter County One Stop. The goal of this training program is to prepare individuals for the state exam, which must be passed in order to work in the industry. Paul met the requirements for the grant and started his training. Paul excelled on his coursework, moving through the material relatively quickly.

Outcomes & Benefits

Paul received a certificate of completion in Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance and in Water Treatment Plant Operation Volume II. He also passed the distribution state exam and holds a Distribution Level 1 Certificate. As part of the grant, Paul is currently on a work experience with the City of Yuba City, where he is getting hands-on experience.
