Meet Nicha

Workforce Challenge

Nicha was a dislocated worker from the aviation industry when she entered the Wichita Career Center. She was a single-mother in need of FT employment in order to maintain her household.

Although Nicha liked her job in aviation, she expressed interest in changing her career path to health care. She completed eligibility for Kansas Health Professional Opportunity Project (KHPOP) in order to pursue her RN degree.

Workforce Solution

Nicha enrolled in the RN program at Butler County Community College. She received assistance with her tuition, fees, materials and supplies. In addition, she received assistance with various supportive services to eliminate barriers to training, such as, housing, utility and fuel assistance.

Outcomes & Benefits

Although Nicha did not complete her RN training, she successfully exited the KHPOP/PACES program with FT employment. She decided to return to the aviation industry and was offered a permanent full time aviation position at Spirit Aerosystems after completing a contracted job for Spirit in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is employed as a Machinist and earns $18.50/hr. Also, she earned a Gold WorkReady! Certificate.
