Meet Christal

Workforce Challenge

Christal, a single mother of two children, was underemployed as a CNA and received public assistance. She was in need of more advanced nursing credentials in order to provide a self-sufficient wage for her family.

Workforce Solution

Through the Kansas Health Professional Opportunity Project(KHPOP) she was able to enroll in the CMA program at Midwestern College. In addition, she was given assistance in financial lteracy training, job seeking skills and assistance with tuition and fees.

Outcomes & Benefits

Christal was able to complete her CMA training and certification and was offered a full time position at Comfort Care Homes.

Although the LPN program was her focus, she decided to put that training on hold in order to gain work experience and care for her family. She plans to complete more advanced Nursing credentials in the future on her own.
