Meet Sarah

Workforce Challenge

Sarah, a recent culinary school graduate with some restaurant experience, was having difficulty finding employment. She admitted that it may have been due to some legal challenges coupled with her unique visible body art.

Workforce Solution

Sarah registered with Auburn Connections and immediately began to use their services. She asked the staff questions about how best to address her legal issues when completing her applications and talking with employers. The staff provided coaching to Sarah in this area, as well as applauding her culinary skills and revising her resume to highlight her culinary vocational degree. They also suggested that she approach smaller employers in the local community in order to establish a new work history.

Outcomes & Benefits

It is often said that “timing is everything” and a few weeks after Sarah began coming to Connections, a local retreat center had an opening for a cook. Sarah was the first candidate to apply. The retreat center staff was impressed with Sarah’s credentials and how well she interviewed. They quickly offered her the cook’s position. The retreat center continues to be pleased with Sarah and her job performance, and Sarah is very happy working with the staff and the guests at the retreat center.
