Workforce Challenge

Luly Flores, Granada Corporation’s Human Resource Manager, was looking for bilingual individuals who could serve as customer service representatives for an insurance company. The company had identified Oxnard as a city where there could be a strong employee pool, but she needed localized assistance in screening candidates.

Workforce Solution

Fred Garcia, a West Oxnard JCC Account Executive, stepped in to assist Luly with recruiting. He posted job-opening notices at the JCC, on the Ventura County Job & Career website and through
CalJobs, the state’s employment development department job site. He also printed flyers and distributed them to local schools and businesses. Through these efforts, Fred identified 15 potential candidates.

Outcomes & Benefits

Luly, who works in Granada Corporation’s Mexico office, traveled to the West Oxnard Career Center where she made an employment presentation to the 15 candidates. After meeting and evaluating each candidate individually, two were hired. The new employees trained to receive their state insurance license. Granada Corporation seeks to hire up to 50 additional employees and will be recruiting again in Oxnard within the next few months - using the JCCs, of course!
