Sharpe Interior Systems

Workforce Challenge

Sharpe Interior Systems, Inc. is a local drywall contractor that has been in business since 1976. The company values quality craftsmanship, inclusive value and excellence in customer service and satisfaction. They needed to hire and recruit employees for several large contracts they'd recently won.

Workforce Solution

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board’s (SBWIB) Business Services Division developed a successful partnership with Sharpe Interior Systems to place economically disadvantaged individuals in large construction projects in the Los Angeles/South Bay area through an on-the-job training and apprenticeship program.

Outcomes & Benefits

The SBWIB’s Inglewood One-Stop Career Center assisted Sharp Interior Systems in recruiting and hiring 15 new employees. Several of the new employees were females hired in this non-traditional career path for women. All 15 employees are now proud members of the Carpenters Union Local No. 1506 as Apprentices. They will complete a two-and-a-half year training program with classes in safety, carpentry and drywall skills and will earn up to $37.35 an hour and receive full benefits.
