Meet Elisha

Workforce Challenge

Elisha is an Inglewood resident who was laid off after 5 years with an office and copier supply company due to a reduction in the company’s workforce. She registered for Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UIB), which she received for nearly two years. She continued to look for a job but without success. It seemed that all of her efforts were just not paying off and her UIB benefits were nearing an end.

Workforce Solution

Once the unemployment benefits were no longer available, Elisha was forced to go on public assistance. Stressed because she had very little money left to pay her bills, she was advised by a friend to seek assistance from the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB). In March 2012 she walked into the One-Stop and felt comfortable about how knowledgeable and eager the staff was to get her back to work. Elisha went through the interview techniques workshop and received constructive feedback on how to improve her resume.

Outcomes & Benefits

In March 2012, Elisha became employed at Republic Services, Inc. as a Customer Service Representative working 40 hours a week. By June 2012 she was able to get off public assistance. Elisha is grateful to the South Bay Workforce Investment Board and the Inglewood One-Stop because she is able to support herself and her child and soon will be taking her family on a long awaited vacation.
