Meet Andrea

Workforce Challenge

Andrea, a resident of Gardena, was referred to the Gardena One-Stop Business & Career Center by the Torrance Employment Development Department. She had been out of work for nearly two years. Andrea submitted numerous job applications but was not getting many calls for interviews. Although she has an Associate’s degree and many years of experience, she was concerned that being middle-aged may have been a barrier to her job search.

Workforce Solution

One-Stop staff at the Gardena One Stop assured Andrea that regardless of her age, there was a great job just for her. Her counselor suggested that she revise her resume and streamline her job search to better match her education and experience. She was also able to improve her computer skills and interview techniques with the assistance she received at the One Stop. Andrea stated that her overall confidence and self-esteem were definitely boosted through working with the staff at the One Stop.

Outcomes & Benefits

Andrea is now an Associate Sales Administrator for L-3 Communications. She said she will be forever grateful to the Gardena One Stop staff and the South Bay Workforce Investment Board for making her believe in herself and giving her the boost to continue. She also stated that she didn’t feel alone in her job search knowing there was an entire team contributing to and working towards her success.
