Meet Leslie

Workforce Challenge

Leslie was laid off from a financial services company after 11 years of employment as a Retirement Plan Installation Administrator. Labor market changes in this industry meant that her skills in retirement services were no longer in high demand. As a result, she was having difficulty finding a new job.

Workforce Solution

After Leslie's Case Manager completed an in-depth assessment of her transitional skills they discovered that her extensive background in contracts and compliance was a perfect fit for the paralegal field. All she needed was short-term classroom training to prepare her to compete for high demand job opportunities in this field.

Outcomes & Benefits

Leslie enrolled and excelled in the UCLA Extension Paralegal classes and finished the course with a 3.9 GPA. She moved right into a job search at the Beach Cities One-Stop Resource Center and landed a volunteer opportunity with a local attorney that later became a part-time job. Leslie was successful in transitioning from a declining industry into a high demand field and now earns over $20 an hour with full benefits.
