Workforce Challenge

DuctTesters, an energy consulting firm, needed to hire a HERS Rater/Energy Auditor for retrofits and new construction. They needed to make sure the new hire had the appropriate skills, but needed to control training costs as well.

Workforce Solution

Dave Hegarty, President of DuctTesters, partnered with SETA to hire trainees through the On-the-Job Training (OJT) wage subsidy program. The program helps employers offset the training costs of hiring a new employee and provides the trainee with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field while earning a paycheck.

Outcomes & Benefits

DuctTesters hired trainee Harry Williams for the job. Harry, a graduate of SETA’s Clean Energy Workforce Training Program, had received a BPI-Building Analyst (BA), Building Envelope (BE) written certification through Cosumnes River College and HERS I-II certification through CalCERTS.

Harry successfully completed his OJT and is now working full time at DuctTesters.
