Workforce Challenge

Carmonita Bowers-Hally was expecting her first child when she was laid off from a financial services company in October 2010 after 16 years of employment. She started as a Call Center Representative and had moved up to Asset Management Manager during her tenure. She transitioned along with the company throughout the buyouts from several different businesses, but was now out of a job. Soon after, Carmonita had her baby and was struggling to pay rent and adequately provide for her newborn as a single parent.

Workforce Solution

Through the National Emergency Grant (NEG), SETA/Sacramento Works provided Carmonita with rental and utility assistance to ease the financial hardship she was experiencing. This allowed her to focus on finding employment and caring for her child. SETA/Sacramento Works evaluated her resume, informed her of community resources, and provided her with several job announcements, including one with Advanced Call Center Technologies.

Outcomes & Benefits

After months of interviewing for jobs, Carmonita finally received a call from Advanced Call Center Technologies with a job offer for a Customer Service Agent position. Although she’s back where she started 16 years ago, working in a call center environment, she is hopeful she will move up the ranks to become a manager again. Carmonita expressed her gratitude to SETA/Sacramento Works for all of their help and recommends others take advantage of the services because they truly make a difference.
