Meet Lynn

Workforce Challenge

Lynn was homeless and in dire need of stable income. She had submitted dozens of applications but had no success in landing a job. In her job seeking efforts, Lynn was attending the Senior JOb Club weekly meetings. It was here where she was referred to Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

Workforce Solution

Lynn was enrolled into SCSEP right away and was immediately provided a paid ($7.25/hour)training opportunity where she would learn and update her office skills for 20 hours per week with a local agency. The income she earned qualified her for senior housing at a greatly subsidized rate, effectively taking her off the streets and into a more stabile home environment with extra income for necessities like food and clothing.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lynn continued to apply for jobs. Her host agency was so impressed with her work ethic and enhanced work skills that they jumped at the chance to hire her on as a Direct Support Professional. They didn't want to lose her to another job somewhere else! Her new job paid her $9.00 for full time work which also offered health insurance, sick leave, pension, vacation time and a daily meal.
