Meet Roger

Workforce Challenge

Roger had been looking for employment for over a year. He had been working diligently with the Veterans Program at the Wichita Workforce Center. He had a wife to support but was not tied to Kansas as he wished to move closer to his children living in other states.

Workforce Solution

The Veterans Rep recognized that Roger would be a great candidate for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). He enrolled in the SCSEP program and was immediately assigned to perform 20 hours of paid (minimum wage)community service at the local extension center. This opportunity allowed him to began earning wages right away with a work schedule that allowed him to continue to regularly meet with the VA Rep who helped him apply for VA jobs.

Outcomes & Benefits

Before long Roger had been offered a job with the VA in Texas for a full time position that paid $15.55/hour and offered full benefits. This position also provided him an opportunity to move even closer to his children as a position opens up in the future.
