Meet Karen

Workforce Challenge

Karen came to the workforce center unemployed and receiving assistance from the state. She had previously worked for a company, making $10/hour, in a field that she did not see herself progressing. She had already obtained her CNA and HHA certifications, but wanted to pursue her CMA through the Kansas Health Profession Opportunity Program (KHPOP) to make herself more marketable in the Healthcare Industry.

Workforce Solution

Through the KHPOP program, Karen was able to enroll in the CMA program at Midwestern College. In addition,the KHPOP covered the costs for tuition and uniforms. She was also able to receive career coaching and certifications in the Money Smart and BEST workshops, as well as guidance throughout her training program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Karen completed her CMA employment through Comfort Care Homes, on making $10.25/ hour. She is know able to thrive in the Healthcare Industry and if desired, gain additional certifications to move up in the her career.
