Meet Darlene

Workforce Challenge

Darlene had been out of the workforce for 10 years and had health issues that limited her ability to perform most work. She considered herself too old to be taken seriously by an employer but felt she would be excellent at reception work if she was able to update her office technology skills.

Workforce Solution

Darlene enrolled into the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in April 2010. She was assigned to two different host sites where she performed receptionist work at a rate of $7.25/hr.
Her office skills were greatly enhanced and she excelled at her work. Her supervisors raved at how professional Darlene had become.

Outcomes & Benefits

Darlene was able to demonstrate through her work she took pride in her ability to perform a job well done. The second host site posted a front desk position with a department -a many applications were received. Darlene interviewed for the position and was offered the job. She now makes more than $12.00/hour.
