Workforce Challenge

Marshalls, a national retailer, will be opening a new location in Wichita, KS. The store manager, Michael Aidoo, contacted Wichita Workforce Center in July, 2012 to ask for help in recruiting up to 80 new employees.

Workforce Solution

The Business Team at the Workforce Center helps meet the workforce development needs of employers in several ways. The Workforce Center offered to host a job fair at its location to bring in qualified applicants for the open positions. The center has a large reception area where candidates can complete an application and also conference rooms where employers can meet with applicants for interviews.

Outcomes & Benefits

The Wichita Workforce Center hosted a job fair for Marshalls on August 8, 2012 and received over 90 applications. Of those, Marshall's hiring managers met with 85 candidates and felt that roughly half of those individuals were qualified and would move forward in their hiring process. Their entire staff was very happy with the quality of candidates and the turnout for the job fair. When the new store opens in September, some of those employees will be there because of the Job Center's efforts.
