Meet Russell

Workforce Challenge

Russell lives 50 miles outside of Wichita and was struggling to find work close to home and his family. He learned an oil company was moving into the local area and would be needing truck drivers. Not having any trucking certification or experience, but a desire to learn, Russell sought counsel at the Workforce Center.

Workforce Solution

With the advise of his Workforce Center Professional, Russell learned he was eligible for training services through the Workforce Investment Act(WIA). Russell was able to participate in a five week training program specializing in certification for tractor-trailer commercial drivers license(CDL) which is required by law. He was even able to receive fuel assistance to help with the cost of commuting to his training location.

Outcomes & Benefits

Russell completed his CDL training and was immediately hired by Select Energy Services earning $18.00 per hour. Russell will now be able to enjoy the benefits of working locally and closer to his family.
