Meet Richard

Workforce Challenge

Richard was laid off in August 2011. He is a married father of 4 relying on unemployment insurance and food assistance to provide for his family.

Workforce Solution

Richard connected with Workforce Alliance, where he received training in truck driving through the WIA program. He completed training in December, 2011 and obtained his Commercial Drivers License. He was referred to the business team for job placement assistance. He was provided with resume and job search assistance, and he attended resume workshops to better market his skills. Richard lacked experience in the truck driving industry, so his counselor recommended that he start with a temporary employment agency to obtain the driving experience most employers are looking for.

Outcomes & Benefits

Richard obtained employment as a driver through Preferred Personnel working for Pioneer Products. After about 60 days employment he was offered full time employment with Pioneer Products at a competitive wage, plus additional compensation for stops and long hauls, as well as health insurance.
