Workforce Challenge

Angel had many years of construction experience, but after he was laid off during the economic downturn, he could not find a new job in his field. Angel came to Greenville County Workforce Development for assistance.

Workforce Solution

At the job center, Angel registered with WIA and participated in the Preferred Employee Training Program (PET). He received much-needed assistance from the program facilitators and his WIA case manager to revise his resume and to improve his interviewing techniques and his job search skills.

After the completion of the PET program Angel moved into an on-the-job training opportunity with Grainger, a supplier of industrial equipment and tools.

Outcomes & Benefits

Angel maintained successful progress during his training at Grainger. He received his 45 day review and met 100% of the expectations to perform his job duties. On March 16th 2012, he became a full-time regular employee at Grainger where he now receives comparable pay to what he was making before, plus full employee benefits. He will receive performance reviews every six months and will have opportunities to advance.

Angel has learned new skills and values the collaboration that between the programs that made him a success. He couldn’t be happier with the Grainger leadership and the great people he works with. Congratulations, Angel!
