Meet Sal

Workforce Challenge

Sal was introduced to the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board when the Business Resource Team hosted a Rapid Response workshop at his company. For the first time in his career, he was about to lose his job.

The Business Resource Team told Sal about their workshops, services and resources available at the One-Stop Employment Resource Centers.

Workforce Solution

"I used to pass by the Employment Resource Center on my way to work and always hoped I would never have to walk inside, but everything changed for me," he said. When Sal walked into the Employment Resource Center in Rancho Cucamonga, he realized this was a place that would help him become more competitive in the job marketplace.

Sal joined the Job Club and worked hard to develop a job search strategy, hone his résumé and participate in mock interviews.

"The way people apply for jobs has changed," he said. "I learned how to distinguish myself from other applicants, get an interview and improve my chances of getting the job."

Outcomes & Benefits

"The Employment Resource Center was a helping hand and a friendly place and that is important in this computer age when you apply for a job online," he said.

As a former training manager, Sal approached the director of the Employment Resource Center about the opportunity to present workshops. He was hired as a nine-month contract employee. "I shared all the lessons I learned while seeking my own job," he said.

Sal was later hired as a full-time contract analyst with San Bernardino County.

"The world has changed for many of us who were laid-off," he said. "Take the first step, visit the Employment Resource Center, and update your job search skills to get back to work."
