Joshua Tree Landscape and Maintenance

Workforce Challenge

High insurance and hiring costs hampered growth for Joshua Tree Landscape and Maintenance. There was demand for service but owner Rollie Heschong didn't have the manpower and budget to hire new employees.

Workforce Solution

San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board’s Business Resource Team worked with Rollie to identify qualified candidates. The team used an HR hotline and On-the-Job-Training funds to help the company bring on 12 new employees.

Outcomes & Benefits

The company has now been able to expand its service area and increase sales. In 2011, it grew to 14 full-time and 30 seasonal employees, and the company's client base grew to 200 customers in 30 cities across Southern California. The company went from $120K in sales two years ago, to $750K in 2011. Projected sales for 2012 are estimated at over $1 Million. Owner Rollie Heschong is happy with his company's growth, but more than that, he's happy to see his employees thriving and contributing to the local economy.
