Workforce Challenge

Hiring new personnel takes time away from keeping up with orders and meeting customer demands. At Desert View Auto in Bloomington, CA., General Manager Eric Frazier is responsible for overseeing an operation that picks up donated cars, processes them and then sells them for various charities throughout Southern California.

"When I'm looking for a new employee, I get a lot of responses," he said. "To address all of them and call them in for interviews is a major task."

Workforce Solution

Frazier met with a member of the San Bernardino County Business Resource Team and was amazed that someone could help him locate the right candidates, pre-screen them and even provide wage reimbursement funds to train new employees.

"The Business Resource team member came in and explained how we could utilize the various business services and resources funded by the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board," Frazier said. "We hired some drivers through an On-the-Job Training contract and now when I need qualified help, they are the people I call."

Outcomes & Benefits

Through special grants such as the Desert Green Veterans Training Grant, employers like Frazier can hire men and women returning to civilian life and offset the costs of their training.

"We hired a veteran three months ago and with his dedication and training, he has already moved up," he said. "This young man is a great asset to our company and I want to bring more veterans like him to our team."
