Workforce Challenge

Ruth was homeless and she didn’t know where to turn. She was unemployed and not eligible for Unemployment Insurance. After overhearing a conversation about the WIA Program for adults she realized she had nothing to lose if she inquired about it at the Iredell County JobLink Career Center in Statesville. She was introduced to Angela Wilson and things began looking up for her.

Workforce Solution

Ruth received training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Mitchell Community College. She is thankful for the opportunity to be trained in something that will afford her the opportunity to find work in a field other than factory work or fast food which is what Ruth had mainly done most of her life. She even set a goal of pursuing additional training as a CNA II.

Outcomes & Benefits

Ruth is now employed with not one, but two full-time jobs. Three months after finishing training, she was employed with Aurora Health Care as a Medical Technician in Statesville, North Carolina. Then, she found additional employment at Heritage Adult Living as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Troutman, North Carolina. Her co-workers have affectionately nicknamed her "Speedy" because she moves so fast. She loves her job and is so grateful to be working.
