Meet Max

Workforce Challenge

Max came to Southwest Florida Works seeking training to become an Automotive Service Specialist. The center staff help Max explore available options, and together they agreed that Max required academic remediation in order to meet the qualifications necessary for acceptance into the Automotive training program.

Workforce Solution

Max had many barriers to overcome in order to obtain employment. His first challenge was to improve his language scores for school acceptance. Max studied hard and achieved the grade level required for this occupation on the T.A.B.E. test (a standardized assessment test) and he was subsequently accepted into the Automotive Service Technology program. With WIA assistance, Max enrolled and maintained good academic averages and worked full time to support his family.

Outcomes & Benefits

Max's hard work and diligence paid off. Max successfully earned his certificate of completion in Automotive Services Technology. Working with Southwest Florida Works and a local Toyota dealership, Max completed the apprenticeship program and continues to work full time. Max is grateful for the assistance he received from Southwest Florida Works, the WIA program and the change in his confidence level now that he is able to support his family.
