Workforce Challenge

Russell was laid off from his previous employer due to a reduction in workforce. Since he had worked as a CNC Technician, he did not expect to be unemployed for two years.
While unemployed, the military veteran received support from his family, friends and church to get by. He struggled with the necessities of life.

Workforce Solution

At Greenville County SC Works Center, Russell used Veterans Services as well as referrals to United Way to obtain medications, but he really needed to get back to work.

"Finding a job IS a job," said Russell, and with support from the Center, he renewed his commitment to finding work. There were days he spent many hours in the SC Works Center searching for employment.
He attended Veteran Job Fairs in Charleston, SC and Atlanta, GA. He also attended local Job Clubs and remained in close contact with the Greenville/Spartanburg Veteran Representatives. He explored every possible lead and finally began to make some headway.

Outcomes & Benefits

In June, 2011, Russell found employment with CIRCOR Instrument Technology in Spartanburg, SC as a CNC Technician. He is making a good salary with full benefits. He has surpassed his 90 days and is due for his first pay increase in December. Because of his excellent job performance and experience he is exploring new opportunities working and traveling with CIRCOR Engineers.

Congratulations Russell on your continued perseverance and employment.
